Our Mission Statement

In setting up SL4 Europe our aim is to transcend the politics of martial arts and share this material with like-minded open individuals and martial arts groups throughout Europe who have the desire to further develop the effectiveness of motion through the study of advanced concepts and principles and an understanding of the natural mechanics of the human body, its strengths and weaknesses and how to utilise these to achieve maximum efficiency to enable students to achieve the best results possible from their studies and endeavours.

What is SL4-Kenpo?

In American Kenpo we have principles and theories; these are the fabric that binds American Kenpo together, and what sets it apart from 95% of other Martial arts that are around today.

One of these theories is The Four Stages of Range. It is important to understand these ranges when being applied to combat. In order of proximity they are:

1. Out of contact range
2. Within Contact range
3. Contact penetration
4. Contact manipulation

Many then go on to say that range 4, contact manipulation, has a sub level to it, a hidden or more advanced level and that this is where the very elusive Sub level 4 can be found. If this assumption were correct then explaining SL4 would be easy. SL4 is not “contact” manipulation, it is “control” manipulation at a sub level of all of the 4 ranges of contact. It covers many aspects including, nerve activations, striking manipulation, structural alignment and mechanisms designed through natural body mechanics to increase the effectiveness of not only American Kenpo but indeed any martial art.
